Join us for a great afternoon!
Please join us for a fantastic afternoon that will include talks about the Upper Florentine forest, scrumptious food and an exciting auction, all set in a fabulous location, the Cornelian Bay Boat House.
World Heritage wilderness
The creation of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area in 1982 represents one of Australia’s greatest conservation achievements.
Protecting nearly 1.4 million hectares of alpine mountains, buttongrass plains and ancient rainforest, the World Heritage Area encompasses a greater range of natural and cultural values than any other region on Earth.
But when the World Heritage listing was made it left out one crucial component, inclusion of the area’s world-famous old growth forests, which are found in the Upper Florentine, Styx and Weld valleys.
Florentine under threat
Up until now these forests have remained largely untouched by logging.
But as the forestry operations move into previously untouched areas of the Upper Florentine Valley a growing number of Tasmanians are becoming angry at the ongoing destruction of our natural heritage.
Coming from all walks of life we want to see the entire Upper Florentine Valley protected from current and future logging and eventually included in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
What you can do
Please join us and become a “face of the Florentine”. You can do this by signing an online petition calling for the protection of the Upper Florentine Valley, or by sending Premier David Bartlett a letter asking him to help protect the magnificent forests of the Florentine.
